Based on the fundamentals of humanistic life philosophy of Buddhism, as propounded by lay priest Nichiren Daishonin, The Soka Gakkai International is a global network of buddhist practitioners.
"From a World of War to Peace. From a Society of hate to friendship. From Conflict to Harmony." Yes, Dr. Daisaku Ikeda is that One Man who amid countless challenges and criticism, rose up and exerted every bit of his nerve to turn theselofty ideals of peace, happiness and harmonyinto a visible and living reality.
January 26, 1975, the birth of SGI undoubtedly marks the victory of one man, the burning desire and the steadfast struggles of one man who dedicatedly strove to reach out to the world and fulfill the mission of his mentors Mr. Toda & Mr. Makiguchi, Yes, the mission of establishing a foreground where the religion of humanity and harmonious ties of peace & happiness based on the principles of Buddhism could flourish and blossom in every heart.. The city of Guam was chosen to be the center for establishing this global movement and making a new departure to change human history. On this day, ordinary men and women of resolute faith, heroic courage and lofty mission of kosen rufu gathered together from around 51 countries to celebrate this momentous start of securing world peace, with their pledge of dedicating their lives to the mission of propagating Nichiren Diashonin's Buddhism.
And today, through the courageous, compassionate and collective efforts of our mentor Dr. Ikeda and the pioneer members exerting themselves with spirited determination, the global network of SGI members currently consists of over 12 million members encompassing 192 countries and territories worldwide. This is indeed an unprecedented achievement that will shine forever in the history of Buddhism.!!!
